Axles

Vibrations and strange noises coming from under the car, especially when a change of speed occurs, this is a good indication that there may be an issue with the axle. It’s no mystery even to the least technically inclined driver that automobiles rely on a complicated assortment of mechanical gadgets that run the gamut from purely mechanical to purely digital. While there are many important components that all need to work together for your car to go forward, few are as important as the axle itself. CV Axle & Joints

All front-wheel drive cars have constant velocity (CV) axles and joints on both ends of the drive shafts. These inner joints connect your drive shaft to the transmission and the outer ones connect the drive shafts to the wheels. In other words, these small joints transfers the engine’s power to the wheels at a constant speed (thus the name). CV joints also absorb some of the shock from bumps in the road and the stress when turned. Without them the axles would break every time you hit a pothole. Even some four wheel drive vehicles also have them. While they are built to last the life of the car, the protective boots will become cracked and worn during normal driving conditions. This causes the joint to leak the lubrication meant to allow it to move smoothly. The outer joints wear out sooner than inner ones.

The best way to tell if your CV joints are wearing down is a clicking, popping, or grinding noise especially when turning. At low speeds they might knock, or cause vibrations felt in the steering wheel and floorboard. Don’t delay today, our comprehensive 3,750 oil service includes an inspection of these very important components to make sure they are working properly, which can potentially save you from a larger repair job down the line.

Drive Shaft

Do you hear a high-pitched squealing noise coming from under the hood? This could be a symptom of a serpentine belt problem. This belt operates your alternator, A/C compressor, power steering pump and sometimes the water pump as well. Don’t delay in getting your car’s noises checked out.

Another belt integral to the smooth operation of your vehicle is the timing belt. If you’ve clocked enough distance to warrant a timing belt replacement, it’s in your best interest to have your vehicle serviced as soon as possible. At Dana Meyer Auto Care, we offer dependable timing belt replacement services for a wide variety of makes and models.

At Dana Meyer Auto Care, we pride ourselves on performing reliable auto repair and maintenance work. And we work hard to keep our rates reasonable without ever compromising on quality or service. Don’t trust your vehicle to just anyone. At Dana Meyer Auto Care, we’re dedicated to your satisfaction. Call or visit our auto center today to have your timing belt replaced.

Electrical System

Newer vehicles can have approximately 50 different microprocessors included in the ECM (Engine Control Module). Each processor controls a different function in the vehicle. Some help with diagnosis to help direct a technician what component may need servicing, other computers reduce emissions, offer more luxurious like independent climate control, etc. However the ECU (Engine Control Unit) has the most intensive job of them all, controlling the engine’s performance. There is a large network of inputs (sensors usually) that give information to the computer about what the vehicle is doing, what the driving conditions are and it will then calculate how much fuel to release, how much coolant is needed to keep the engine performing well. The ECU is able to make millions of calculations per second. If your vehicle is having unexplained problems that replacing the part(s) hasn’t resolved the issue? Chances are there is an underlying electrical issue that needs to be diagnosed.

Ignition Systems

All vehicles rely on multiple components to start properly. Ignition parts include coil secondary windings, distributor cap, rotor, plug wires and spark plugs. Spark plugs can become ineffectual over time due to carbon build up, and gap erosion. Ignition wires can wear through from constant vibration. Without proper servicing of them fuel may not be fully ignited in the cylinder’s combustion chamber causing damage to the exhaust system and may even lead to failing smog.

The other ignition system components are less known, and in some cases have been replaced by more sophisticated counter-parts in late model cars (in the case of the distributor). But what remains to be important is that each piece is looked over for proper functioning.

Minor Body Work

We handle your most common body damage repairs. From a broken side, review mirror, bumpers or skid plates that need to be re-attached, all the way to cracked windows/windshields, etc. Call us today and chances are we can help or refer you to someone who can!

Radiator Repair

Steam coming from under the hood, the heater blowing cold air, and the temperature gauge in the red are all indications of a cooling system fault. Your car’s radiator keeps your car cool, much like the air conditioning in your house. But car radiators can develop problems such as clogs, corrosion, wear and tear, and leaks, which can often render your vehicle unusable.

At Dana Meyer Auto Care, we refuse to compromise on quality. Our team has the tools and skills to diagnose and fix radiator problems so that you can get back on the road as quickly as possible. In all we do, we strive to maintain a high standard for quality and excellence. Steering

Vehicle steering systems are designed to provide comfort against bumps in the road, to protect the underside of your vehicle, and allows you to direct it the where to go. Most vehicles have what is called a rack and pinion steering system. A pinion gear attached to the steering shaft, when the wheel is turned the gear spins, turning the rack, and the tie rods at either end of the rack connected to the steering arm on the spindle move the tires. Essentially, through a series of gears attached to the steering wheel the steering system allows a driver to apply just a slight movement of the wheel while the system expends a great deal of effort to turn the vehicle’s wheels with ease.

The common problems associated with your steering is pulling one way or another, usually a cause of tire over/under inflation or mis-alignment. If the steering takes a lot of effort to turn then there is most likely a component of the power steering going bad, or perhaps just low on fluid. If the steering system slips when turning it one way or another this could be an issue with steering fluids or worse case scenario, damaged steering rack components.

Suspension

An intricate system of parts are designed to make your ride as comfortable as possible. Your suspension is what separates the car from the many road hazards present. This system is designed to take a lot of abuse from the road, but will need regular attention to ensure smooth operation. So if your vehicle doesn’t seem to ride like it used to, bring it in today to ensure a small problem doesn’t grow.

It may seem daunting to try to diagnose suspension problems on your own. But that’s why we’re here. At Dana Meyer Auto Care, our technicians are familiar with the suspension systems of a wide variety of vehicle makes and models. We offer auto suspension repairs designed to get your vehicle back out on the road as quickly as possible.

Thermostats

Your vehicle’s thermostat is responsible for controlling the heating and cooling of your engine through the physical blocking of the coolant’s passage through the engine. When the engine is cold no coolant flows through it, but once the thermostat is heated to approximately 200 degrees Fahrenheit it will open allowing for coolant to enter the engine’s passages.

An easy way to determine if your thermostat is going bad will be to squeeze both the upper and lower radiator hoses once the car is warmed up. If only one hose is hot then it’s very likely that the thermostat is stuck closed.

The temperature gauge should never read within the red markers on the display, if a vehicle overheats too often it can compromise the integrity of the engine block itself. Typically a thermostat is to blame if the car overheats within the first 5-15minutes of starting it up (assuming you have coolant in the radiator).

Transmission Rebuild

You rely on your transmission to keep your car going. So when your transmission starts to fail, you need to get it repaired quickly.

Approximately every 7 years, or every 100k miles, your car’s transmission may start to experience operational faults. Your transmission is one of the most important parts of your car or truck, and its smooth operation is critical to your vehicle’s safety and longevity. At Dana Meyer Auto Care, diagnostics is one of the things we do best, and we have the knowledge it takes to accurately assess transmission problems, recommend the right solutions, and get you back on the road as quickly and cost-effectively as possible.

Tune-Ups

In late model cars tune-ups aren’t what they use to be. For older cars a tune-up meant changing out typical wear and tear components for all cars every few years. Today’s vehicles use parts that are built to last longer and therefore, tune-ups have altered in-kind. For instance, spark plugs use to go bad every 30k miles or less, but today some can last approximately 100,000 miles!

What we recommend in lieu of a standardized tune-up list is abiding by the specific recommendation list prescribed by the  manufacturer of your vehicle. That way you save money on unnecessary repairs and each system on the vehicle is attended to. In order to prevent any system failures that could leave you on the side of the road and with a hefty repair bill. By getting your oil changed here at Dana Meyer Auto Care we can ensure that your vehicle will be thoroughly inspected from top to bottom with our 28 point inspection, just one more way to ensure all repairs are made before they are a major problem.
